U.S. Ideological Civil War

"Since 1979, Iran has grown to hate the West more and more for any number of reasons ranging from our support of Israel’s right to exist to John McCain singing “Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran.” Having seen the YouTube video of McCain’s singing, I’m inclined to give Iran the benefit of the doubt on that one. Yet, whenever Iran has threatened America, the Left has either stayed silent or tried to spin the statements into no big deal."

To Mahmoud With Love
The Left’s love affair with Iran
 by Thomas Lindaman

With the recent events in Iran, the world waited for the United States to respond to the unrest and accusations of voter fraud. And boy, did President Obama deliver! After carefully weighing his options, Obama came out and said, well, nothing. I haven’t been that disappointed in a response than when I asked Kathy Griffith out on a date…and she accepted. Continued...

It seems to me that the Left has a blind spot when it comes to Iran and its President, whom I affectionately call Imadinnerjacket. For all intensive purposes, Imadinnerjacket is the kind of guy the Left should hate. He’s a religious man who claims to be doing God’s will, loves to oppress his own people, keeps the press on a tighter leash than a prisoner under the care of Lynndie England, and openly seeks out gays to kill them. In short, Imadinnerjacket is everything the Left claims George W. Bush is.

Yet, in spite of all this, the Left has embraced President Imadinnerjacket. When he came to speak in America in 2007, Leftist fell all over themselves complimenting him. He was smart! He was funny! He could speak more than one language well! He even got a prime time interview on “60 Minutes” where he was lobbed more softballs than a wall at a Nerf testing facility. What is it about him that makes the Left go gaga over him?

I thought about it recently (hence, the reason I wrote this column), and I came up with to possible explanations. Both seem implausible at their face, but once you delve into them, they make more and more sense.

The first explanation is that the Left is in love with Iran’s radical elements. A couple of decades ago, Iran was fairly friendly towards America. They may not have always liked what we did, but we did right by them and tried to keep them free. That changed, thanks to Jimmy Carter. With his vast knowledge of Middle Eastern geopolitics at his disposal, Carter not only toppled the pro-West Shah of Iran and replaced him with the anti-West Ayatollah Khomeini. And, boy, did that ever turn out great, huh?

Since 1979, Iran has grown to hate the West more and more for any number of reasons ranging from our support of Israel’s right to exist to John McCain singing “Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran.” Having seen the YouTube video of McCain’s singing, I’m inclined to give Iran the benefit of the doubt on that one. Yet, whenever Iran has threatened America, the Left has either stayed silent or tried to spin the statements into no big deal.

One particular blind spot the Left has with Iran concerns Imadinnerjacket’s repeated threats against America and Israel. In speech after speech, he has said in no uncertain terms that he wants to destroy America and Israel. And how does the Left respond? By saying his comments are taken “out of context.” Of course, I’d be curious to find out in what context I should put comments like “Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation’s fury” or “As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map.”

I’m sure in context, Imadinnerjacket’s comments could be chalked up to his wacky sense of humor, right? I mean, he only wants to build a nuclear bomb for the express purpose of bringing back the 13th Imam! That’s a prop comic that could put Carrot Top to shame!

Now, with the Iranian Presidential elections in question due to alleged voter fraud, the Left had a chance to stand up for freedom. After all, they were all over allegations that George W. Bush stole the 2000 and 2004 elections here, so they should be on the Iranian voter fraud story like lightning! Not so much. Granted, they’re used to seeing districts with more votes than registered voters (especially given that Obama’s from Chicago), but that’s no excuse to overlook it in Iran. If voter fraud is wrong in America, it’s wrong in Tehran.

At this point, it’s clear that no matter what Iran does, the Left will do its best to overlook it or make it sound like not that big of a deal. It’s just like being the spouse in an abusive marriage. No matter what the aggressor does, the abused spouse will make up excuses to hide the physical and emotional injuries done to him or her. And when you consider Imadinnerjacket wants America wiped off the map along with Israel, he’s one heck of an abusive husband. And until the Left gets wise and walks out, they’ll still be doing Imadinnerjacket’s PR work in America.

Oh, and the other explanation the Left goes to bat for Imadinnerjacket? He looks like Henry Winkler with a mustache, beard, and a tan.

And that’s the Bottom Line.
