A parable is a brief, "useful" story in prose or verses that illustrates a moral lesson. According to ancient Greek hilosopher Plato parables encapsulate an abstract argument into a concrete, more easily grasped narrative. Here is a "musical" parable related to "wrong ideologicy" of the ruling party and "ideology of no ideology" of the opposition party.

Playing music with wrong instruments
by Ben Imas and Boris Tiraspolsky

Both political parties in the United States act like two amateur music players who want to play the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven and sing The Ode to Joy. However, the only musical instruments they have and can play are percussion instruments and banjo.

One player says, I understand that the Ninth Symphony is written for an orchestra and choir, and requires many other instruments - string, brass, woodwind. But I play percussion instruments that are an integral part of the composer's music. Another player says, I could not care less what "other" instruments needed to play this music. I play my banjo, as many Americans do, and I do not need percussion instruments either, because no one could hear how well I play my banjo, otherwise.

Finally, a Conductor comes and tells to both amateur players that they cannot play the Ninth Symphony and sing The Ode to Joy by using wrong instruments. In order to explain to them why it cannot be done, he asks for a "useful instrument" - grand piano to play the original composer's score. Alas! The grand piano is not available anymore either. Some time ago BOTH PARTIES agreed to sell the grand piano and purchase the percussion instruments and banjo instead.

An die Freude - Ode to Joy
Lyrics of the Ode to Joy written by Frederick von Schiller,
Chorus of 9th Simphony 4th Movement of Ludwig van Beethoven

TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH

BARITONE
Oh friends, not these tones!
Let us raise our voices in more
pleasing and more joyful sounds!

ODE TO JOY (Friedrich Schiller)

BARITONE, QUARTET, AND CHORUS
Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Thy magic reunites those
Whom stern custom has parted;
All men will become brothers
Under thy gentle wing.

May he who has had the fortune
To gain a true friend
And he who has won a noble wife
Join in our jubilation!

Yes, even if he calls but one soul
His own in all the world.
But he who has failed in this
Must steal away alone and in tears.

All the world's creatures
Draw joy from nature's breast;
Both the good and the evil
Follow her rose-strewn path.

She gave us kisses and wine
And a friend loyal unto death;
She gave lust for life to the lowliest,
And the Cherub stands before God.

TENOR SOLO AND CHORUS
Joyously, as his suns speed
Through Heaven's glorious order,
Hasten, Brothers, on your way,
Exulting as a knight in victory.

CHORUS

Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Joy, beautiful spark of the gods,
Daughter of Elysium,
We enter fire imbibed,
Heavenly, thy sanctuary.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Can you sense the Creator, world?
Seek him above the starry canopy.
Above the stars He must dwell.

Joy, daughter of Elysium
Thy magic reunites those
Whom stern custom has parted;
All men will become brothers
Under thy gentle wing.

Be embraced, Millions!
This kiss for all the world!
Brothers!, above the starry canopy
A loving father must dwell.

Joy, beautiful spark of Gods!,
Daughter of Elysium,
Joy, beatiful spark of Gods! 1
